According to data from the Vietnam Fisheries Processing and Export Association, in October 2024, Vietnam's seafood exports exceeded 1 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 28%. Since June 2022, Vietnam's aquatic product exports have once again exceeded 1 billion US dollars, sending a positive signal to export companies by the end of the year.
Based on this, the cumulative export value of aquatic products in Vietnam reached 8.27 billion US dollars in the first ten months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%.
Industry experts say that Vietnam's exports have achieved significant growth against the backdrop of strong demand for imported aquatic products in major markets. It is worth noting that exports to China (including Hong Kong) have surged by 37%, consolidating its position as Vietnam's largest and fastest-growing market. Other markets have also achieved significant growth, with exports to the United States increasing by 31%, exports to Japan increasing by 22%, and exports to the European Union increasing by 27%. It is worth noting that if the growth momentum of 20% in the first ten months is maintained, China is expected to surpass the United States by the end of the year and become Vietnam's largest seafood export market.
From the perspective of product structure, shrimp and fish are products with greater growth potential in 2024. As of the end of October, the export value of shrimp exceeded 3.2 billion US dollars, an increase of 13%, while the export value of Tra fish was close to 1.7 billion US dollars, an increase of 10%. Seafood such as crabs and shellfish have maintained strong growth momentum since the beginning of the year. In October, the export of crabs and other crustaceans increased by 58%, and the export of shellfish increased by 138%.
