According to the latest report from the National Fisheries Agency (CNA) of Ecuador, due to a decline in demand from major markets, particularly in Asia, frozen shrimp exports from Ecuador decreased significantly in September. Specifically, exports have decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year, with particularly significant declines in major markets such as China and the United States.
In September 2024, the total export volume of shrimp from Ecuador reached 95113 tons, a significant decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The export value also decreased by 14% to only 470 million US dollars, and the average selling price decreased by 3% to 4.93 US dollars per kilogram. This is a worrying development for Ecuador's aquaculture industry, as major markets such as China and the United States have significantly reduced shrimp imports.
1. Chinese market: Imports fell by 18% in September.
2. US market: Imports fell by 31% in September.
